Climbing Precision and Device Compatibility
Modern tree climbing techniques—including SRT and DRT (Doubled Rope Technique)—rely on ropes that interact seamlessly with mechanical climbing devices and friction hitches. Our climbing lines, such as the Silva-Tex 24, are engineered with a 24-plait polyester jacket that provides exceptional flexibility and a high-grip surface for manual climbing.
To ensure the dimensional stability required for efficient ascent, our arborist ropes are EN 1891 Type A certified, offering ultra-low elongation to eliminate “bounce” and reduce climber fatigue during long vertical entries. For those utilizing advanced mechanical descenders, our lines feature an optimized twist level to ensure smooth passage through hardware without the “judder” associated with generic synthetic ropes, providing millimetre-accurate control in the canopy.
Rigging Stability and Friction Management
Arboricultural rigging requires ropes that can handle high dynamic loading and the repeated friction of lowering heavy timber. Our Rig-Tex range utilizes a durable double-braid construction designed to absorb the shocks of falling sections while maintaining a high strength-to-diameter ratio for easier handling.
Friction management is critical to safety; a standard nylon cord can glaze or fail under the intense heat generated during a rapid descent or heavy lowering operation. To combat this, we offer the Silva Prusik Pro, utilizing a Nylon and Technora® (Aramid) blended cover. This hybrid construction provides unmatched heat resistance (maintaining integrity up to 500°C) and extreme abrasion protection, ensuring that your friction hitches remain reliable and easy to release even after high-load events. Every arborist line is Made in Britain at our Malvern facility, ensuring full batch traceability and the “R5 Promise” of sustainable manufacturing using recycled rPET fibres where possible.
