Rig-Tex 24: 12-Strand Core, 24-Plait Polyester Double Braid Rigging Rope
Rig-Tex 24 is a double braid polyester rigging rope manufactured by English Braids in Malvern, Worcestershire, combining a 12-strand polyester core with a 24-plait polyester cover. The 24-plait cover construction is the key differentiator from the single-braid Rig-Tex 12. The tighter, more regular surface of a 24-plait cover allows the rope to run more smoothly and consistently through pulleys, snatch blocks and rigging hardware, reducing friction and resistance at contact points. The same surface construction also distributes abrasion load across a greater number of individual plait elements, improving wear resistance at hardware contact zones and extending service life in equipment-intensive rigging setups.
Both core and cover are polyester, giving the rope excellent resistance to acid, alkali and UV throughout. Heat resistance is ~230°C for both construction elements. The rope is heat-set and pre-stretched for dimensional stability and reduced elongation under working load. Extension at 50% of breaking load is 5%.
Rig-Tex 24 carries the same colour-coded diameter identification system as the Rig-Tex 12, with each diameter designated a specific colourway across the range: red at 10mm, orange at 12mm, blue at 14mm, yellow at 16mm, green at 18mm and pink at 20mm.
Available from 10mm to 20mm. Note that 10mm, 12mm and 14mm are supplied on 200m reels; 16mm, 18mm and 20mm are supplied on 100m reels.

Double Braid vs Single Braid: Choosing Between Rig-Tex 12 and Rig-Tex 24
Both Rig-Tex products are 12-strand polyester rigging ropes at their core, heat-set and pre-stretched for arborist and general rigging use. The distinction between them is construction: Rig-Tex 12 is a single-braid, 12-strand rope throughout, while Rig-Tex 24 adds a 24-plait polyester cover over the same 12-strand core.
The additional cover on Rig-Tex 24 changes two things. The handling characteristic becomes softer and more flexible, which matters when the rope runs through pulleys, snatch blocks and redirect devices. A single-braid rope is stiffer and better suited to applications where the rope runs directly to a rigging ring or is used as a straight pull. The cover also adds a dedicated abrasion layer, which is the first surface in contact with rigging hardware. This extends the service life of the working section of the rope in hardware-intensive setups.
The 5% extension at 50% load is a practical performance figure for system design: it indicates how much elongation the rope will exhibit under half its minimum breaking load, which is relevant for calculating working length in lowering and rigging systems. Rig-Tex 24 in the English Braids Rigging and Climbing Range
Rig-Tex 24 sits within the English Braids arborist rigging range alongside the Rig-Tex 12, which provides single-braid 12-strand polyester rigging in the same colour-coded diameter system from 10mm to 20mm. For arborist climbing lines and work positioning, English Braids also manufactures the Silva-Tex 16 and Silva-Tex 24, which provide EN 1891 certified polyester climbing rope options.
