The "Stage Above the Stage": Precision Fly Systems
In professional theatre, the fly system (or counterbalance rigging system) is a complex network where reliability is paramount. We provide specialised lift lines and operating lines (hand lines) engineered to move heavy scenery, lighting battens, and performers with millimetre-accurate control.
Dyneema® Lift Lines: Replacing traditional steel cables, our Dyneema® lines offer a 7:1 strength-to-weight advantage, making them virtually invisible to the audience while providing the zero-water absorption and low-stretch performance required for “Peter Pan” style flight and heavy set changes.
Load-Out and Rigging Lines: For riggers working in the fly space (which can extend over 60 feet above the stage), our Tutus Static range serves as the essential load-out line. These EN 1891 Type A certified ropes provide the energy absorption and hardware compatibility required for safe technician movement and the rapid positioning of scenery.
Thermal Stability and High-Friction Rigging
Theatrical environments are uniquely challenging due to the intense heat generated by high-output stage lighting and the friction of rapid set changes. Standard synthetic ropes can glaze or fuse when positioned near spotlights or cycled at high speeds through pulleys (blocks).
To address these risks, we offer Technora® (Aramid) rigging cords. This specialized fibre maintains its structural integrity at temperatures exceeding 500°C, protecting the load-bearing core from the thermal degradation often encountered in “theatre magic” effects, such as falling chandeliers or high-speed automated sets. For manual rigging and traditional counterweight systems, our 3-Strand Matt and 8-Plait Matt lines provide the high-friction “hand” and classic black finish required to disappear into the wings.
