Tutus Accessory Cord: BS EN564 16-Plait Polyester Cord for Rope Access Lanyards and Rigging
Tutus Accessory Cord is a BS EN564 certified 16-plait polyester accessory cord manufactured by English Braids in Malvern, Worcestershire. Part of the Tutus height safety range, it is designed for use as a supplementary cord in rope access, rigging and equipment management applications rather than as a primary working line. The 16-plait polyester braid construction is heat-set and pre-stretched for dimensional stability and ease of handling. The cord is designed specifically for knotting rather than splicing, which suits the field conditions of rope access and equipment rigging where knotted connections are standard practice. Polyester construction gives the cord good resistance to acid, alkali and UV exposure, with a heat resistance threshold of ~230°C. Available in 3mm to 8mm diameter on 100m reels.

BS EN564 Accessory Cord: Standard, Construction and Application in Rope Access
BS EN564 is the European standard for accessory cords used in mountaineering and rope access equipment. It specifies minimum breaking load requirements, elongation, and knotted breaking strength for cords used as supplementary components in personal protective equipment systems. Accessory cords certified to EN564 are not designed as primary working lines, which are governed by EN1891 for static kernmantle ropes, but as the supporting connections, lanyards, rigging ties and equipment tethers that a rope access system requires alongside the main working line. Tutus Accessory Cord meets BS EN564 requirements across a 3mm to 8mm diameter range, with average breaking loads from 1.8kN at 3mm to 13.7kN at 8mm. The 16-plait polyester braid construction is heat-set and pre-stretched, which gives the cord consistent diameter, stable handling under load, and reliable knot retention. The cord is specifically designed for knotting rather than splicing: field conditions in rope access routinely require knotted connections to hardware, harness attachment points and anchor systems, and a cord optimised for knotting will hold more predictably under those conditions than one designed for terminal splicing. Tutus Accessory Cord in the English Braids Tutus Range
Tutus Accessory Cord sits alongside the English Braids Tutus static rope range as a supporting product for rope access systems. Where the Tutus Static provides the EN1891 Type A or Type B certified primary and secondary working lines, Tutus Accessory Cord provides the EN564 certified supplementary cord for equipment lanyards, rigging support lines, tool tethering and harness rigging connections. Polyester construction gives the cord good chemical resistance and UV stability, suited to the outdoor and industrial environments in which rope access teams operate. The heat resistance threshold of ~230°C is consistent with the polyester material used across the Tutus range.
