Rig-Tex 12: PU-Coated 12-Strand Polyester Rigging Rope for Arborist and General Rigging
Rig-Tex 12 is a 12-strand polyester rigging rope manufactured by English Braids in Malvern, Worcestershire, designed primarily for arborist rigging and suitable for general rigging applications requiring a field-splicing-friendly construction.
The 12-strand braid allows fast, secure splicing while the rope is in use, enabling on-site adjustments without specialist tooling or time-consuming re-rigging. The rope is pre-stretched and heat-set for dimensional stability under load.
A polyurethane (PU) coating is applied to the outer surface to extend service life and improve abrasion resistance at friction points and rigging hardware contact zones.
Polyester construction gives the rope excellent resistance to UV and chemicals, with a heat resistance threshold of ~260°C.
Rig-Tex 12 is available in six diameters from 10mm to 20mm, with each diameter assigned a specific colourway for immediate on-site size identification: red at 10mm, orange at 12mm, blue at 14mm, yellow at 16mm, green at 18mm and pink at 20mm. All diameters are available on 100m reels.

12-Strand Construction and Field Splicing in Arborist Rigging
Rigging rope construction directly affects how efficiently a rope can be spliced in field conditions. Kernmantle and braided cover ropes require more controlled conditions and more time to splice cleanly. 12-strand construction, by contrast, allows a lock splice or eye splice to be completed quickly and reliably on site, without specialist tooling. Each strand is accessible and the splice geometry is consistent, which is why 12-strand polyester is the standard construction for arborist rigging lines where ropes need to be adjusted, shortened or terminated during a work session.
Rig-Tex 12 uses this 12-strand polyester braid throughout, with no separate core or cover. The single construction is pre-stretched and heat-set before leaving the mill, which removes the initial stretch that would otherwise occur under working load and ensures the rope holds its diameter and handling characteristics consistently during use. The PU coating adds a surface layer of polyurethane that resists abrasion at friction points and rigging hardware contact zones, directly extending service life in the wear-intensive conditions of arborist rigging. Colour-Coded Diameter System and Rig-Tex Range
Rig-Tex 12 is available in six diameters from 10mm to 20mm, with each diameter assigned a designated colourway across the range: red at 10mm, orange at 12mm, blue at 14mm, yellow at 16mm, green at 18mm and pink at 20mm. In a working environment where multiple rope sizes are in use simultaneously, this colour coding eliminates the need to check labels or measure diameter to identify which rope is which. The correct rigging line for a given load or rigging point can be identified visually from distance.
For higher-load rigging work or applications requiring a double braid construction with greater flexibility, English Braids also manufactures the Rig-Tex 24, a 24-plait polyester double braid rigging rope in the same arborist range. For climbing lines and work positioning, the Silva-Tex 16 and Silva-Tex 24 provide EN 1891 certified arborist climbing rope options. For the full polyester rope range see the polyester rope range.
