Prosheet: Lightweight Polypropylene Core Dinghy Sheet Rope
Prosheet is a performance dinghy sheet rope manufactured by English Braids in Malvern, Worcestershire, combining a 12-strand polypropylene core with a 16-plait polyester cover. The polypropylene core has a specific gravity of 0.91, making it lighter than polyester and contributing to the rope’s low overall weight per metre. The 16-plait polyester cover provides abrasion resistance, grip and durability through blocks and deck hardware. The torque-balanced construction eliminates kinking under load, and the flexible untwisted polypropylene core makes the rope soft and easy to handle in the cockpit. Prosheet is supplied in five diameters from 5mm to 9mm, with each diameter colour-coded for immediate on-deck identification: 5mm in orange, 6mm in yellow, 7mm in neon yellow, 8mm in pink and 9mm in neon green. All diameters are supplied on 100m reels. Resistance to acid, alkali and UV is confirmed for both core and cover.

What Makes Prosheet Different: Polypropylene Core and Polyester Cover
Prosheet uses a hybrid construction that combines two materials to deliver specific handling characteristics for dinghy sheet use. The 12-strand polypropylene core has a specific gravity of 0.91, which is below the density of water, making it lighter than an equivalent polyester core and reducing the total weight of the rope per metre. For dinghy sailing where the mainsheet and control lines are handled continuously by crew in a confined cockpit, lower rope weight reduces fatigue and improves handling feel, particularly in lighter wind conditions where a heavier sheet adds unwanted resistance to free-running through blocks. The polypropylene core is also untwisted, which contributes directly to the rope’s flexibility and gives Prosheet its characteristic soft, pliable feel in the hand. The 16-plait polyester cover over this core provides abrasion resistance and durability through turning blocks, fairleads and cleats, and the torque-balanced construction between core and cover eliminates the kinking tendency that can occur with twisted core constructions under load cycling.

Each Prosheet diameter is manufactured in a distinct colourway to allow immediate visual identification of sheet size without measurement: 5mm in orange, 6mm in yellow, 7mm in neon yellow, 8mm in pink and 9mm in neon green. For chandlers and club stores supplying sheets across multiple dinghy classes from a single range, this colour-coding system eliminates mis-picking and simplifies stock management. Breaking loads verified from English Braids’ internal datasheets: 560kg at 5mm, 760kg at 6mm, 930kg at 7mm, 1,070kg at 8mm and 1,310kg at 9mm. These figures cover the sheet load range for single-handed and two-person racing dinghies from laser-class boats through to larger performance keelboats where a lightweight sheet construction is the specification priority. All diameters are supplied on 100m reels.
