Continuous Control Line

Continuous Control Line is a 4mm rope with an 8-strand polypropylene core and a 16-plait Dyneema® Sk75/polyester cover, designed specifically for endless loop splicing in dinghy control systems. It is available in five colours — black, neon, grey, blue and rust — on 100m and 200m reels.

The polypropylene core keeps the rope light and buoyant, with a specific gravity of 0.91 — it will not absorb water or add weight to the system during use. The Dyneema® SK75/polyester cover provides the low friction and smooth running characteristics that allow the rope to run cleanly through the small-diameter blocks, cleats and deck fittings used in dinghy control systems. The 16-plait cover construction gives a round, consistent cross-section that runs freely and consistently through hardware under repeated load cycles.

Designed to splice to an end-to-end loop, Continuous Control Line is purpose-built for the cascade and purchase systems used in dinghy cunninghams, kickers and outhauls where a continuous loop replaces two separate tail ends. Available in 100m and 200m reels for immediate dispatch.

Typical Applications

Endless Loop Control Lines: Why Continuous Rope Improves Dinghy Systems

A continuous control line — spliced end-to-end to form a closed loop — eliminates the two separate tail ends of a conventional purchase system. In a dinghy cunningham, kicker or outhaul, a continuous loop runs through a cascade of blocks and terminates at a cleat or clam cleat without any loose ends to manage. The result is a cleaner deck layout, faster adjustment under load, and a system that cannot be accidentally uncleated by a flailing tail. The loop also distributes wear evenly across the full length of the rope through each cycle, rather than concentrating wear at the loaded section of a fixed-end tail.

Continuous Control Line is constructed around these requirements. The 4mm diameter is matched to the small-bore blocks and lightweight deck hardware used in dinghy control systems. The polypropylene core keeps the rope buoyant and light, while the Dyneema®/polyester 16-plait cover provides the low-friction running surface and wear resistance that allows the loop to cycle through hardware repeatedly without performance degradation. Available in five colours for system identification, on 100m and 200m reels. Produced at our UK facility as part of the full Dyneema® rope range. UK manufactured.

Dinghy Control Rope: Polypropylene Core and Dyneema® Cover Construction

Continuous Control Line uses a polypropylene core rather than a Dyneema® core. For an endless loop control application, this is the correct specification. The role of the core in this construction is to provide a lightweight, buoyant base with sufficient body for the cover to grip and splice cleanly. Polypropylene at specific gravity 0.91 achieves this — it floats, does not absorb water, and contributes minimal weight to the rig. The performance work in this rope is done by the cover: a 16-plait blend of Dyneema® and polyester that provides low friction through blocks and cleats, UV resistance, and abrasion resistance across the thousands of adjustment cycles a dinghy control system accumulates across a season.

The 16-plait cover construction produces a round, consistent cross-section that runs predictably through hardware and splices cleanly to the end-to-end loop configuration. Extension at break in the cover is 5% — low enough to give precise, responsive control feel without the near-zero elongation of a full Dyneema® core rope, which can transmit shock loads directly to hardware fittings in a lightweight dinghy system. For dinghy halyards and sheets where a full Dyneema® core construction is the correct specification, Dinghy Dyneema® provides an SK78 core option from 1–6mm.
