Braid on Braid: Pre-Stretched 24-Plait Polyester Double Braid Rope
English Braids’ Braid-on-Braid is a 100% polyester double braid rope manufactured at our facility in Malvern, Worcestershire. The construction uses a 12-strand polyester core enclosed by a 24-plait polyester cover, heat set and pre-stretched at the point of manufacture to reduce extension under working load. Extension at 50% breaking load is 5%. Specific gravity is 1.38 across both core and cover. The rope is resistant to UV, acid and alkali degradation, with a heat resistance threshold of ~230°C for both components. The non-kinking, torque-balanced construction runs cleanly through blocks, clutches and winches, and the rope splices easily without specialist tools.
Braid-on-Braid is available in eight colourways across nine diameters from 6mm to 24mm. Sizes from 6mm to 10mm are supplied on 200m reels; 12mm to 24mm on 100m reels.

What Is Braid-on-Braid Rope and How Is It Constructed?
Braid-on-Braid is a double braid rope construction in which a braided core is enclosed within a separately braided cover, with both components manufactured from the same base fibre. English Braids’ Braid-on-Braid uses a 12-strand polyester core and a 24-plait polyester cover, producing a rope in which the load is shared across both construction elements rather than carried solely by the core as in single-braid constructions. The result is a rope with a high breaking load relative to its diameter, a firm round cross-section that holds its shape under load, and a smooth consistent surface that runs cleanly through deck hardware. Both core and cover are 100% polyester with a specific gravity of 1.38, resistant to UV, acid and alkali degradation and rated to 230°C. The rope is heat set and pre-stretched at the point of manufacture in Malvern, Worcestershire, which stabilises the construction and keeps working extension to 5% at 50% breaking load.
The 24-plait cover construction is the defining characteristic that separates Braid-on-Braid from lower carrier count alternatives. A 24-plait cover produces a tighter, denser surface with more fibre contact per unit length, which translates directly to superior abrasion resistance and longevity through hardware. The torque-balanced construction eliminates the kinking and hockling tendency of twisted constructions, making Braid-on-Braid the standard specification for applications where the rope passes repeatedly through blocks, clutches, fairleads or winches. For the full English Braids polyester rope range, including lighter constructions for lower-load applications, see the polyester category page.

Braid-on-Braid Applications: Marine, Arborist, Winching and Industrial
English Braids’ Braid-on-Braid is used across a wider range of markets than any other single product in the polyester range. In leisure marine applications it is the standard halyard and sheet rope for cruising yachts, where its combination of pre-stretched low extension, easy spliceability and colour-coded identification makes it the practical specification across vessels from 20 to 60 feet. The cruising market page covers the full rope specification for halyards, sheets and running rigging in detail. In arborist rigging, Braid-on-Braid’s abrasion resistance and non-kinking behaviour under repeated load cycling make it a reliable rigging line for lowering and redirecting work. For industrial winching and theatre rigging applications, the torque-balanced double braid construction provides predictable load behaviour without the rotation tendency that makes twisted rope unsuitable for overhead lifting lines.
Braid-on-Braid is available in nine diameters from 6mm to 24mm with breaking loads verified from English Braids’ internal datasheets ranging from 1,350kg at 6mm to 14,000kg at 24mm. Spliced breaking loads are also confirmed: 1,030kg at 6mm through to 11,200kg at 24mm. The rope is stocked in eight colourways including red fleck, blue fleck, yellow fleck, green fleck, white, navy, black and beige. Red fleck, blue fleck and white are also available as sustainable rPET constructions through the English Braids sustainable rope range. Sizes from 6mm to 10mm are supplied on 200m reels; 12mm to 24mm are supplied on 100m reels.
