D-Racer 16: SK78 Dyneema Dinghy Rope with 16-Plait Cover
D-Racer 16 is a Dyneema® SK78 core rope with a 16-plait polyester cover, designed for dinghy halyards and sheets where flexibility and easy tapering are the primary handling requirements. Available in 3–6mm across four twist mix colour combinations, on 200m reels.
The 16-plait cover construction gives D-Racer 16 a more supple hand than constructions using a denser plait count. For dinghy applications where lines run through lightweight blocks, small-diameter organiser eyes and low-friction rings, a flexible cover reduces the force required to run and adjust the rope through hardware and makes the rope easier to taper — the process of reducing diameter at one end to minimise weight through the top of a block or mast exit. The SK78 core delivers high tenacity, low elongation and low creep, with breaking loads from 370 kg at 3mm to 1,910 kg at 6mm.
Available in white/black, yellow/black, blue/black and red/black twist mix colour combinations for deck identification. Stocked in 100m & 200m reels for immediate dispatch.

SK78 Dyneema® Dinghy Rope: Flexibility and Performance in Small Diameters
D-Racer 16 uses a Dyneema® SK78 core — the same high-tenacity, low-creep fibre used in full racing rigging — in diameters from 3mm to 6mm. At these sizes, weight and flexibility become the dominant performance variables. A 3mm D-Racer 16 at 0.6 kg per 100m adds negligible weight to a dinghy rig while delivering a 370 kg break load through a construction that runs cleanly through the small sheaves and lightweight hardware used in modern performance dinghy rigging. The 16-plait polyester cover gives a supple, consistent cross-section that runs freely through blocks and exits without the stiffness of denser cover constructions, reducing friction losses in the system and improving control response.
The rope is designed to be tapered — the process of splicing a reduced-diameter tail section that feeds cleanly through a block or mast exit while the working section retains full diameter and strength. For a dinghy halyard where minimising weight aloft is operationally relevant, a tapered D-Racer 16 achieves the weight reduction without compromising the SK78 break load in the loaded section. Dinghy Halyards and Sheets: 16-Plait Cover Construction and Handling
The choice between a 16-plait and 32-plait polyester cover on a Dyneema® core rope is a handling trade-off. A 32-plait cover — as used on Dinghy Dyneema® — is harder wearing and more resistant to abrasion through high-cycle hardware. A 16-plait cover is more flexible, runs more freely through blocks and organisers, and is easier to taper. For dinghy rigging that is regularly adjusted, runs through multiple turning points, or needs to be tapered for weight reduction at the mast, the 16-plait construction of D-Racer 16 offers a practical handling advantage. The SK78 core specification is identical — the difference is in how the rope behaves through the hardware, not in the strength of the loaded line.
D-Racer 16 is available in four twist mix colour combinations — white/black, yellow/black, blue/black and red/black — allowing each line function to be identified on deck without tags or marking. Available in 200m reels across all four colour options for immediate dispatch. Browse the full Dyneema® rope range or contact the team for class-specific recommendations.
