DC12: SK75 Dyneema® Single Braid for Soft Shackles and Rigging
DC12 is a 12-strand Dyneema® SK75 single braid with an impregnated coating, available as standard in 2–10mm across four colours. Breaking loads run from 477 kg at 2mm to 8,500 kg at 10mm. DC12 is also available in SK78, SK99 and DM20 grades on request, allowing the same construction to be specified across a wider range of load and creep requirements.
The impregnated coating binds the braid surface to reduce fretting between individual strands and improve abrasion resistance without adding a separate cover layer. Lower twist levels than standard HMPE constructions reduce torque under load and improve handling and spliceability. The SK75 fibre delivers 3.5% extension at break with very low elongation under working loads, making DC12 suitable for dynamic loading applications where steel wire is the conventional specification. The 12-strand construction splices easily using a standard bury splice, making it the correct base material for Dyneema® soft shackles and soft links.
Available in black, blue, red and yellow on 200m reels. 8mm diameter is available in black only. Stocked for immediate dispatch.

SK75 Dyneema® Single Braid: Strength-to-Diameter Performance
DC12 is an unsheathed 12-strand SK75 Dyneema® braid. Without a polyester cover, the full diameter of the rope is load-bearing fibre. At 2mm with a 477 kg break load and 0.4 kg per 100m, DC12 delivers a strength-to-weight ratio no polyester or nylon construction can approach at the same diameter. This characteristic makes it the correct specification for applications where diameter and weight are the binding constraints: soft shackles, where a small finished diameter must clear a block or shackle pin; lashings, where the line must pass through tight hardware; and dinghy control systems, where every gram saved on running rigging is relevant to performance.
The impregnated coating applied to the braid surface reduces inter-strand fretting under dynamic load and improves abrasion resistance at the contact points where an uncoated single braid would show surface wear. Lower twist levels than standard HMPE constructions reduce the torque generated under tension, improving handling and making the rope easier to splice. Dyneema® Soft Shackles: DC12 as the Base Material
DC12 is the correct English Braids specification for fabricating Dyneema® soft shackles. A soft shackle is a single-piece locking loop spliced from a short length of Dyneema® single braid, used as a lightweight alternative to a steel shackle in applications where weight aloft or snap-back risk are concerns. The 12-strand construction of DC12 produces a round, consistent cross-section that holds the bury splice geometry under load, and the SK75 fibre provides the break load required for the shackle’s rated working load limit. At 3mm with a 918 kg break load, a DC12 soft shackle carries a working load of approximately 180 kg at a 5:1 safety factor, weighing under a gram.
DC12 is also specified for dynamic wire replacement in marine and industrial systems where steel wire is the conventional choice. The combination of SK75 tenacity, low elongation under working loads and 3.5% extension at break provides the stiffness and energy absorption characteristics required for dynamic loading without the corrosion, weight and snap-back hazard of equivalent steel.
