Dyneema®

Dyneema DC78 / 78XPS

Dyneema DC78 is a pure SK78 Dyneema® single braid supplied without a cover, sharing the same breaking loads as DC75 but produced with SK78’s engineered molecular anchor architecture — delivering 78% lower creep than SK75 under equivalent sustained load. Stock colour is charcoal grey. The 78XPS variant is pre-stretched using the XPS process, achieving significantly higher breaking loads at equivalent diameters from 6mm core upward.

SK78 fibre is MEG4 compliant at fibre level and accredited by DNV GL, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK, making DC78 the correct specification where mooring, offshore or safety-critical certification is required. Standard DC78 runs from 3mm to 26mm core. XPS variant available from 6mm to 17mm. Sizes marked with an asterisk are made to order. Minimum order 100m.

Typical Applications
  • Racing halyard cores
  • High-cycle winch lines
  • Mooring pendants and tails
  • Control lines and sheets
  • Guys, runners and tack lines
  • Wire rope replacement
  • Offshore and subsea tethers

SK78 Single Braid Dyneema® — DC78 and 78XPS

Dyneema DC78 and 78XPS are single braid constructions in pure SK78 Dyneema® fibre, sharing the same breaking loads as DC75 but produced with SK78’s engineered molecular anchor architecture. These side chains in the polymer backbone prevent long-chain sliding under sustained load, delivering a measured creep rate of 0.006%/day against SK75’s 0.02%/day — a 78% reduction. The XPS pre-stretching process further increases breaking load at equivalent diameter: at 9mm core, the 78XPS achieves 10,800kg average spliced breaking load against the DC78’s 6,940kg. SK78 fibre is independently accredited by DNV GL, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK, and specifically surpasses all OCIMF MEG4 test requirements at fibre level.

Commercial Marine, Racing and High-Cycle Applications

DC78 and 78XPS are the correct specification where dimensional stability under sustained or cyclic load is an operational requirement — high-cycle halyard cores, winch lines, mooring pendants and offshore tethers where SK75’s higher creep rate would introduce safety or geometry margin errors over time. As a standalone uncovered line both variants work as sheets, guys, runners and direct wire rope replacements.
