Dyneema®

Dyneema DC99 / 99XPS

Dyneema DC99 is a pure SK99 Dyneema® single braid supplied without a cover, delivering approximately 20% higher tenacity than SK78 at equivalent core diameter through heat-stretching at fibre level. Stock colour is charcoal grey. The engineering case for DC99 is breaking load at reduced diameter: where hardware bore size, sheave diameter or weight budget is fixed, DC99 achieves the required breaking load in a smaller cross-section than DC78.

The 99XPS variant is pre-stretched for further performance increase — at 9mm core, the 99XPS achieves 12,500kg average spliced breaking load against the DC99’s 8,260kg. DC99 is stiffer than DC78 and more sensitive to tight bend radii. For dynamic applications or hardware not rated for high-modulus fibre, a covered construction should be considered. All sizes are made to order with 100m minimum.

Typical Applications
  • Diameter-critical halyard cores
  • High-load offshore guys and runners
  • Race craft control lines and sheets
  • Wire rope replacement at reduced diameter
  • Lashings and tack lines

SK99 Single Braid Dyneema® — DC99 and 99XPS

Dyneema DC99 and 99XPS are single braid constructions in pure SK99 Dyneema® fibre, achieving approximately 20% higher tenacity than SK78 at equivalent core diameter through heat-stretching at fibre level. The 99XPS pre-stretching process delivers a further breaking load increase: at 9mm core, the 99XPS achieves 12,500kg average spliced breaking load against the DC99’s 8,260kg — a 51% increase over the standard variant. SK99 is stiffer than SK78 with greater sensitivity to tight bend radii and reduced grip in some rope clutches. Specifying DC99 purely to reduce rope diameter increases the percentage of breaking load carried in service, which can accelerate creep. For dynamic applications or systems with standard hardware, a covered construction with polyester sheath mitigates both the handling and hardware compatibility constraints while retaining the SK99 tenacity advantage.

Diameter-Critical Rigging and High-Load Wire Replacement

DC99 and 99XPS are the correct specification where hardware bore size, sheave diameter or system weight budget is fixed and cannot be relaxed — the same breaking load is achieved in a meaningfully smaller cross-section than SK78. As a standalone uncovered line both variants work as halyard cores, offshore guys, race craft sheets and direct wire rope replacements where minimum diameter at maximum load is the design constraint. For covered constructions combining SK99 with polyester abrasion protection, see our Racing Dyneema® Pro range. For applications where creep resistance over sustained static load is the primary constraint, see Dynastay DM20.
