Racing Dyneema® Pro

Racing Dyneema® Pro is a 12-strand Dyneema® SK78 core rope with a 24-plait colour-coded polyester jacket. Designed for racing halyards, sheets and control lines, it covers the full range from 8mm to 24mm and is factory pre-stretched and heat set to minimise extension and creep from the moment of installation.

The SK78 core provides higher fatigue resistance than SK75 grade Dyneema®. This is a meaningful distinction for halyards and sheets that are cycled repeatedly under load across a full racing season. Creep is measurably lower than SK75, so rig tune set before a race holds more consistently through an offshore leg or an overnight stop. The 24-plait polyester jacket protects the core against abrasion through clutches, stoppers and blocks while the colour coding across the range allows fast, reliable identification of each line function on deck.

Typical Applications
  • Racing halyards on performance keelboats and sportboats
  • Spinnaker and gennaker halyards
  • Jib and genoa halyards
  • Sheets — mainsheet, jib sheet, spinnaker sheet
  • Running backstays
  • Control lines — outhauls, cunninghams, kickers, reefing lines
  • One-design class running rigging

SK78 Dyneema® Halyard Rope: What the Grade Upgrade Delivers

Racing Dyneema® Pro uses a Dyneema® SK78 fibre core rather than the SK75 found in standard-grade racing Dyneema® constructions. The practical difference comes down to two properties: fatigue resistance and creep. SK78 is a higher-tenacity grade engineered specifically for dynamic, high-cycle applications. A racing halyard tensioned and eased on every tack, gybe or sail change accumulates load cycles quickly across a season. Under those conditions, SK78 retains its break load and dimensional stability for longer than SK75, reducing both replacement frequency and the risk of strength degradation mid-race.

Creep — the gradual, permanent elongation of a loaded fibre — is lower in SK78 than SK75. On a halyard holding backstay tension overnight or a spinnaker halyard locked off for a long downwind leg, lower creep means the load setting applied at the start of a passage is closer to the load setting at the end. For applications where creep must be eliminated entirely, Dynastay uses Dyneema® DM20 — a dedicated low-creep grade. Racing Dyneema® Pro sits between the two: meaningfully better than SK75 or polyester, at a lower cost per metre than DM20 constructions. Available in 8–24mm diameters with breaking loads from 3,140 kg (8mm) to 23,500 kg (24mm) spliced, it covers everything from dinghy trapeze wires to offshore keelboat halyards. UK manufactured.

Colour-Coded Racing Lines: Construction, Function and Deck Safety

Racing Dyneema® Pro is manufactured with both a colour-coded 24-plait polyester jacket and a colour-coded core. The core colour is visible at the cut end and at splice tails, giving a rigger a secondary identification check independent of the jacket. In a race scenario — when a foredeck crew member needs to identify the correct spinnaker halyard in under a second, or a navigator needs to confirm a running backstay is loaded and not its twin — jacket colour is the fastest possible identification method. Assigning a function to each colour eliminates identification errors that cost seconds or, under load, risk damage to deck hardware or sails.

The 24-plait polyester jacket carries a structural role as well. It shields the load-bearing SK78 core from UV exposure, abrasion through rope clutches and stoppers, and the surface friction generated by repeated winch cycling. A jacket that shows visible wear — flattening, fuzzing, or colour fade — is a reliable indicator that the core beneath warrants inspection before the next offshore or high-wind race. For weight-critical applications where jacket protection is less important and every gram counts, Dyneema® DC78 offers an unsheathed SK78 single braid. Racing Dyneema® Pro is stocked in white, beige, black, red, blue and green for immediate dispatch.
