D-Tract: HMPE Synthetic Winch Rope for 4×4 and Off-Road Use
D-Tract is a 12-strand HMPE winch rope with a protective impregnated coating, available in 9–16mm diameter with minimum breaking loads from 6,800 kg (9mm) to 16,200 kg (16mm) on spliced terminations. Manufactured with an increased fibre count to achieve break loads equivalent to a certified Dyneema® construction. Made to order in grey as standard, with custom lengths and finished assemblies available. Dyneema® SK75 is available on request for applications requiring certified Dyneema® fibre.
The pitch of the 12-strand braid has been optimised specifically for winching applications. A tighter braid pitch reduces the gap between strands, restricting ingress of dirt, grit and mud into the core of the rope. In off-road and recovery use, dirt embedded in an open-pitch braid acts as an abrasive between strands under load cycling, accelerating internal wear and reducing service life. D-Tract’s optimised pitch and protective coating together extend working life in muddy and high-contamination environments. The construction is torsionally stable under load, preventing the twist-and-kink behaviour that affects standard winch rope when tension is applied and released rapidly through a recovery sequence.
At a fraction of the weight of steel wire at equivalent break load, D-Tract eliminates the snap-back hazard associated with steel wire drum winch lines. Made to order. Custom spliced assemblies available on enquiry.

HMPE Winch Rope: Dyneema-Equivalent Performance at a Practical Price Point
D-Tract uses HMPE fibre — the same high-modulus polyethylene polymer that underpins Dyneema® — with an increased fibre count engineered to achieve break loads equivalent to a certified Dyneema® construction. The result is a 12-strand winch rope that delivers the key operational properties of synthetic winch line: weight savings over steel wire, no snap-back hazard on failure, and high break loads in small diameters. For applications where certified Dyneema® fibre is a procurement requirement, D-Tract is available in Dyneema® SK75 on request. For applications where performance at the stated break load is the requirement and fibre certification is not, the standard HMPE construction delivers the same working rope at a more accessible price point.
Break loads run from 6,800 kg (9mm) to 16,200 kg (16mm) on spliced terminations. At 3.8 kg per 100m at 9mm, D-Tract is a direct replacement for steel wire of significantly greater mass and diameter at equivalent working load. 4×4 Winch Rope: Optimised Pitch Construction for Off-Road Use
D-Tract is built around a specific limitation of standard 12-strand braid in off-road winching: dirt ingress. A standard braid pitch leaves gaps between strands that allow mud, sand and grit into the core of the rope. In recovery and off-road use, those contaminants act as an abrasive between strands under load, accelerating internal wear that is not visible from the surface. D-Tract addresses this by optimising the braid pitch to close the inter-strand gap, reducing the contamination pathway into the core. The protective coating applied to the rope surface further seals the construction and reduces surface friction during rapid winching cycles. The torsionally stable construction prevents twist accumulation in the rope during repeated tension and release cycles, maintaining consistent handling and drum behaviour across extended use.
D-Tract covers 9–16mm for bumper and portable drum winch applications where a lighter, unsheathed construction is preferred. For heavier commercial winching where drum pressure and abrasion through fairleads are the primary concerns, Winching Dyneema® provides a 24-plait polyester jacket that maintains rope roundness under multi-layer spooling.
