Racing Rope: Performance Dyneema® and Technical Rigging for Grand Prix Fleets
English Braids manufactures high-performance racing rope for grand prix and competitive club fleets at its facility in Malvern, Worcestershire. The racing range is engineered around Dyneema® SK78 and SK99 cores, paired with technical covers including Technora, Aramid and Dyneema® to provide the specific grip, heat resistance and abrasion characteristics required for high-load rigging. From tapered halyards to high-speed sheets and control lines, every construction is heat set and pre-stretched to ensure the dimensional stability and stretch elimination required for precise sail shape control. Supply is provided to the trade on reel quantities or as bespoke factory-spliced assemblies. Technical data for all racing products is verified from internal datasheets.

What Is Performance Racing Rope and How Is It Specified?
Performance racing rope is defined by its ability to maintain consistent length and diameter under the extreme cyclic loading of competitive sailing. Unlike standard cruising constructions, racing rigging utilises high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE) cores, specifically Dyneema® racing rope, to eliminate constructional and elastic stretch. Within the Dyneema® brand range, SK78 is the industry standard for high-fatigue racing applications, while SK99 provides the highest available tenacity for diameter-critical rigging where weight and strength are the primary constraints. English Braids pairs these cores with specialised covers to manage the mechanical interfaces at clutches, winches and turning blocks. Dyneema® cores with Technora or Aramid covers provide the necessary heat resistance and grip for high-speed sheets and halyards that run through aggressive hardware. The specific gravity of Dyneema® is 0.97, making these lines lighter than water, which reduces total rig weight and improves vessel performance in light air conditions. Technical specifications and verified breaking loads for the full racing range are available via the leisure marine range.
The Dyneema® products within the racing range form part of the broader English Braids Dyneema® HMPE rope range, which covers bare single braid and covered constructions across all applications from racing to commercial marine and height safety. For technical information on SK78 and SK99 fibre grades, tolerances and HMPE material properties, see the Dyneema® brand page. For racing applications where Dyneema® specification is not required, the cruising rope range covers appropriate polyester and braid-on-braid constructions.
Technical Covers and Dyneema® Cores for Halyards, Sheets and Control Lines
The choice of cover material is as critical as the core specification in grand prix rigging. For racing halyards where grip in clutches is the primary requirement, a Technora-blend cover provides the necessary friction and abrasion resistance to prevent slipping under load. For high-speed spinnaker sheets and mainsheets, Aramid covers offer superior heat dissipation to prevent cover degradation during rapid easing on winch drums. English Braids’ racing range includes Racing Dyneema® Pro for high-load halyard and sheet applications, Dynastay for synthetic standing rigging, and Technaline for extreme abrasion environments. Bare Dyneema® single braid in DC78 and DC99 grades provides the core specification for riggers building custom assemblies, with technical cover options in DTech, T-Tech and A-Tech covers for specific performance requirements. Every racing rope is manufactured at our Malvern facility. For bespoke rigging requirements or technical enquiries, contact the English Braids team.
