Tutus Hi Viz: EN 1891 Reflective Static Rope for Rope Access in Low-Light Environments

Tutus Hi Viz is an EN 1891 Type A certified nylon (polyamide) kernmantle static rope manufactured by English Braids in Malvern, Worcestershire. It shares the same 32-plait nylon cover and multi-core nylon construction as the Tutus Static, with one additional feature: an integrated reflective tracer woven into the cover and a high-visibility white and orange colourway. The reflective tracer provides enhanced visibility in low-light conditions, making the rope significantly easier to locate, track and control during night operations, emergency service deployments and low-light industrial rope access. The 32-plait cover construction delivers the same sheath-to-core ratio, abrasion resistance and hardware compatibility as the standard Tutus range, tested and compliant with BS EN 1891:1998. Available in 10.5mm and 11mm diameter on 50m reels. Batch-controlled manufacturing ensures full traceability. Single colourway: white and orange with reflective strip.

Typical Applications
  • Night and low-light industrial rope access operations
  • Emergency services rope access in reduced visibility conditions
  • Rescue operations requiring rapid line identification in dark environments
  • Utilities access and maintenance in low-light working environments
  • Fall safety systems where high visual contrast is required on site
  • Working lines in defence operations with low-light exposure requirements
  • Height safety rigging requiring reflective line identification

Integrated Reflective Tracer: Tutus Hi Viz in Low-Light and Night Rope Access Operations

Standard nylon kernmantle static ropes certified to EN 1891 are specified primarily for their mechanical performance: breaking load, elongation, sheath-to-core ratio and hardware compatibility. In most rope access environments, these are the relevant selection criteria. In low-light, night and emergency service operations, a further factor applies: whether the rope can be visually tracked, located and controlled under reduced visibility conditions. Tutus Hi Viz addresses this directly. An integrated reflective tracer is woven into the 32-plait nylon cover alongside a high-visibility white and orange colourway. Under artificial light or torch illumination the reflective tracer returns a clear visible signal, making the rope easier to locate in dark environments, to track during descent and recovery, and to distinguish from other lines in a multi-rope deployment. The construction and EN 1891 Type A mechanical performance is identical to the standard Tutus Static: same 32-plait cover, same multi-core nylon construction, same sheath-to-core ratio, same hardware compatibility. The reflective and high-visibility elements add no mechanical compromise. Tutus Hi Viz is batch-controlled and fully traceable, consistent with the manufacturing standard applied across the English Braids Tutus range. For the full height safety rope range see the height safety range and for industrial rope access applications see the rope access range.

Tutus Hi Viz vs Tutus Static: Choosing the Right EN 1891 Static Rope for the Application

Tutus Hi Viz and Tutus Static share the same core construction and EN 1891 compliance. The decision between them is application-led. Where rope access operations take place in standard daylight conditions across a range of diameters and reel lengths, Tutus Static covers the full specification: 9mm to 12mm, Type A and Type B certification, multiple colourways and longer reel options. Where the operating environment involves low-light conditions, night operations or emergency service deployments, or where high visual contrast on site is a specific risk control requirement, Tutus Hi Viz provides the same mechanical performance with the addition of the integrated reflective tracer and white and orange high-visibility colourway. For emergency service and rescue rope access applications see the rescue operations range. For heat-resistant rope access in high-temperature environments, English Braids also manufactures the Tutus Firex, an EN 1891 Type A static rope with Aramid overbraid cover. For the full nylon rope range see the nylon rope range.
