Dyneema®

Racing Dyneema®

Racing Dyneema® is a 12-strand Dyneema® SK75 core rope with a colour-coded 24-plait polyester jacket, pre-stretched and heat set for racing halyards, sheets and control lines. Available in 8–16mm across six metallic fleck colour combinations, stocked for immediate dispatch.

SK75 is certified Avient Dyneema® fibre, gel-spun to over 95% polymer chain alignment — the process that gives Dyneema® its weight-to-strength ratio no polyester construction can approach. At 4.3 kg per 100m at 8mm with a 3,140 kg spliced break load, Racing Dyneema® delivers a fraction of the weight of polyester at multiples of its strength. Elongation at break is 3.5%, extension at 50% load is 1.5% — figures that translate directly into precise sail trim, positive halyard lock-off and consistent control response across the full load range.

The 12-strand core is matched to the 24-plait polyester jacket to minimise bunching through jammers, clutches and organisers, with high resistance to shear, compression and the friction-generated heat produced by rapid cycling through deck hardware. Stocked in six metallic fleck colour combinations across 8–16mm for immediate dispatch.

Typical Applications
  • Racing halyards and sheets
  • Jib, genoa and spinnaker halyards
  • Mainsheet and control lines

SK75 Dyneema® Halyard Rope: Certified Fibre, Proven Performance

Racing Dyneema® uses Dyneema® SK75 — certified Avient fibre produced by a patented gel-spinning process that aligns polymer chains to over 95%. That molecular architecture is what gives Dyneema® its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio: at a fraction of the mass of polyester, SK75 delivers break loads that no braided polyester construction can match at equivalent diameter. A Racing Dyneema® halyard at the masthead weighs almost nothing relative to what it replaces — a weight reduction that directly improves the stability margin of the yacht, reduces pitching inertia in a seaway, and removes parasitic weight from the point in the rig where it has the greatest effect.

At 1.5% extension under 50% of break load and 3.5% at break, the elongation figures translate directly into sailing performance. A halyard that does not stretch holds the sail at the position trimmed. A sheet that does not elongate under gust load delivers the same leech profile at 12 knots that was set at 8 knots. These are the practical outcomes of specifying certified Dyneema® fibre over polyester — not marginal improvements, but a measurable change in how the boat responds to trim inputs. English Braids produces Racing Dyneema® at our Dyneema® Partner facility in the UK, with SK75 fibre to Avient specification on every reel. UK manufactured.

Racing Halyards and Sheets: Built for Deck Hardware Performance

The construction of Racing Dyneema® addresses the specific failure modes of rope in racing hardware. The 12-strand SK75 core is engineered to work with the 24-plait polyester jacket to minimise bunching — the deformation that causes uneven grip inside a jammer or cleat under rapid load application. High shear load resistance protects the rope where it contacts the edges of sheave grooves and organiser guides under the lateral forces generated by load direction changes. Compression damage resistance maintains the rope cross-section under the clamping force of a locked jammer. Friction-generated heat resistance keeps the polyester jacket stable where the rope cycles rapidly through a turning block or winch under load.

The metallic fleck colour coding across the range — red/silver, blue/silver, green/silver, white with red fleck and white with green fleck — provides unambiguous deck identification of each line function. The polyester jacket gives a consistent, familiar handling feel through gloved hands and bare hands alike, and provides a visual inspection surface: jacket wear and surface abrasion are reliable indicators of accumulated service history. Stocked in 8–16mm for immediate dispatch across all colour options. Contact the team for volume pricing or diameter selection guidance for your rig.
