Dinghy Dyneema: SK78 Halyard Rope for Dinghy Sailing
Dinghy Dyneema® is a 12-strand Dyneema® SK78 core rope with a 32-plait polyester cover, available from 1mm to 6mm in five colour options with a colour-matched core for easy identification during splicing. Available on 200m reels for immediate dispatch.
Designed as a high-performance dinghy halyard, the SK78 core delivers high tenacity, low elongation and minimal creep — holding the hoist position set before a race without the progressive drop under sustained rig tension that affects polyester halyards. The 32-plait one-over-one-under-one weave produces a hard, dense cover with high abrasion resistance through halyard exit boxes, mast sheaves and cam cleats, maintaining reliable grip and consistent wear characteristics across a full racing season. Breaking loads run from 50 kg at 1mm to 1,910 kg at 6mm.
Stocked in white, red, blue, neon and black/yellow colour combinations across the 1–6mm diameter range for immediate dispatch.

SK78 Dyneema® Dinghy Rope: Strength in Small Diameters
Dinghy Dyneema® covers the full range of small-diameter rope requirements on a performance dinghy — from 1mm throwlines and fine control tails through to 6mm halyards and sheets carrying meaningful sail loads. The Dyneema® SK78 core delivers high tenacity and low creep across all diameters: a 4mm Dinghy Dyneema® at 996 kg break load carries far more than the working loads imposed by any dinghy rig, while at 1.1 kg per 100m it adds negligible weight to the system. For a dinghy where total rope weight aloft and through the rig directly affects performance, specifying SK78 Dyneema® across all running lines produces a measurable weight saving over polyester without requiring any change to existing hardware.
The colour-matched SK78 core — visible at cut ends and splice tails — simplifies identification during rigging and makes it straightforward to confirm the correct rope is in the correct position before launching. 32-Plait Cover: Built for Dinghy Hardware
The choice of a 32-plait polyester cover for Dinghy Dyneema® is specific to the demands of dinghy racing hardware. The one-over-one-under-one weave produces a harder, denser surface than a 16-plait construction — and for rope that runs repeatedly through small-diameter blocks, over the sheave of a lightweight jib lead, and into a cam cleat that opens and closes under load every tack and gybe, surface density translates directly into service life. The 32-plait cover resists the surface abrasion that flattens and weakens a lighter cover construction, maintaining a consistent cross-section through hardware and reliable grip in cleats across the full racing season.
For applications where a more supple, easily tapered construction is preferred — particularly where rope runs through low-friction rings or where weight reduction through specific hardware is the priority — D-Racer 16 uses the same SK78 core with a 16-plait cover.
