Eurobraid: 16-Carrier Polyester Braid Rope for Sailing
Eurobraid is a 16-carrier polyester braid rope manufactured by English Braids at its facility in Malvern, Worcestershire. The construction pairs a 12-strand polyester core with a 16-plait polyester cover, heat set at the point of manufacture to reduce extension under load. Extension at 50% breaking load is 5%, making Eurobraid a controlled-performance option for halyards, sheets and running rigging where a cost-effective alternative to standard braid-on-braid construction is the requirement. Specific gravity is 1.38 across both core and cover. The rope is resistant to UV, acid and alkali degradation, with a heat resistance threshold of up to 230°C for both components. Eurobraid is stocked across six colourways (red, green, blue, solid red, solid green and solid blue) in three diameters from 8mm to 12mm on 200m reels, available for immediate dispatch to chandlers, boatyards and riggers.

What Is Eurobraid Polyester Rope?
Eurobraid is a 100% polyester braid rope produced by English Braids for the leisure marine market. Its construction uses a 12-strand polyester core enclosed by a 16-carrier plaited cover, a configuration that gives the rope its combination of tensile strength, dimensional stability and ease of handling. The 16-carrier cover produces a round, firm profile that runs cleanly through blocks, clutches and fairleads, and the rope splices easily without specialist tools. Both core and cover are heat set during manufacture, a process that stabilises the fibres and limits extension under working load. Extension at 50% breaking load is 5%, which positions Eurobraid within the controlled-stretch range suitable for halyards and sheets on cruising yachts where consistent tension is a practical requirement without the cost premium of a higher-specification construction.
Eurobraid sits within English Braids’ polyester rope range as the entry-level braid construction, designed to deliver many of the handling and performance characteristics of braid-on-braid rope at a lower unit cost. It is manufactured at our Malvern facility and is stocked in red fleck, green fleck, blue fleck, solid red, solid green and solid blue across 8mm, 10mm and 12mm diameters on 200m reels, available for immediate dispatch. For halyards and sheets where the cruising application demands low stretch without a Dyneema core, Eurobraid is the appropriate starting specification within the cruising rope range.

Eurobraid for Sailing Halyards and Sheets: Construction and Application
Polyester rope remains the standard construction material for halyards, sheets and running rigging on cruising yachts because it combines adequate tensile strength with good UV resistance, predictable extension behaviour and long service life under regular handling. Eurobraid is a 100% polyester construction, and its specific gravity of 1.38 is consistent between core and cover, which means the rope’s weight per metre is uniform and predictable for rigging calculations. The 5% extension at 50% breaking load makes it suitable for halyards on leisure yachts where some controlled stretch is acceptable and precise sail trim at the limits of the load range is not the primary concern. For primary halyards on performance cruisers where stretch must be eliminated, a Dyneema core construction is the appropriate upgrade, and English Braids produces both blended and full SK78 core options within the cruising range.
Eurobraid’s breaking loads are verified from English Braids’ internal datasheets: 1,950kg at 8mm, 3,050kg at 10mm, and 4,140kg at 12mm. These figures cover the working diameter range for halyards and sheets on leisure yachts from 20 to 45 feet. The rope’s resistance to UV, acid and alkali degradation makes it suitable for permanent outdoor installation in a marine environment without protective treatment. Eurobraid is stocked in six colourways on 200m reels across 8mm, 10mm and 12mm, available for immediate dispatch through chandlers, boatyards and riggers from the English Braids polyester rope range.
