Why Choose Polyester Over Nylon for Anchor Warps Used with Chain?

When an anchor system combines rope warp with chain, polyester is the technically correct rope specification rather than nylon. Nylon’s high extension and water absorption characteristics, which are advantages in pure rope mooring systems, become disadvantages when the rope is used in combination with chain. Nylon absorbs water under repeated deployment, which progressively increases the rope’s weight and alters its handling. Polyester does not absorb water and maintains consistent weight and flexibility throughout its service life. Polyester also retains more tensile strength over time in this environment: nylon degrades faster than polyester when subjected to the abrasion at the chain-to-rope splice junction and the UV exposure of regular foredeck installation.
