Superyacht Dockline Dyneema®: Bespoke Performance Mooring Line

Superyacht Dockline Dyneema® is a 12-strand 100% Dyneema® SK75 core rope with a 24-plait polyester cover, manufactured to order as a bespoke mooring line assembly for superyachts and large performance yachts. Available in 24–40mm diameters with minimum breaking loads from 31,400 kg (24mm) to 64,100 kg (40mm) on spliced terminations.

Each dockline is supplied as a finished assembly: factory-spliced eyes to specified lengths, with optional chafe protection sleeves in polyester, Dyneema® or leather to match the mooring configuration and fendering setup of the vessel. Leather becketting is available for a traditional superyacht finish. The 100% Dyneema® core delivers the weight saving, strength and minimal elongation required for large vessel mooring. A 40mm Superyacht Dockline Dyneema® at 64,100 kg break load weighs 72 kg per 100m, a fraction of equivalent steel wire. The 24-plait polyester cover protects the core from UV degradation and abrasion through fairleads, cleats and chafe points on the dock.

Made to order. Specify diameter, length, eye dimensions and chafe protection requirements on enquiry.

Typical Applications
  • Superyacht mooring lines
  • Stern and bow lines on large performance yachts
  • Spring lines on superyachts

Dyneema® Superyacht Mooring Lines: Strength, Weight and Assembly Specification

The case for Dyneema® in superyacht mooring lines is straightforward: at equivalent break load, a Dyneema® core dockline is a fraction of the weight of polyester and a small fraction of the weight of steel wire. A 40mm Superyacht Dockline Dyneema® at 64,100 kg minimum break load spliced weighs 72 kg per 100m. The weight saving relative to a steel wire mooring of equivalent strength is significant at the scale of a superyacht — both in handling weight during deployment and in the cumulative load on deck hardware, fairleads and cleats during mooring. The rope also floats, which simplifies handling and retrieval in Med-mooring and stern-to configurations where mooring lines enter the water.

Minimal elongation under mooring load means the vessel holds its position relative to the dock — a Dyneema® mooring line does not stretch and spring under surge loading the way polyester does, keeping the vessel in a consistent position and reducing the shock loading transmitted to cleats and fairleads during wash from passing vessels. Bespoke Mooring Line Assemblies: Factory Splicing and Chafe Protection

Superyacht Dockline Dyneema® is supplied as a finished assembly rather than cut rope. Factory-spliced eyes to specified dimensions ensure consistent, load-rated terminations that field splicing cannot guarantee at this diameter and break load range. Eye dimensions, length and configuration are specified on enquiry to match the mooring hardware, dock cleat spacing and vessel layout of each individual yacht. This is the correct specification approach for superyacht mooring — a bespoke assembly made to the vessel rather than a cut length adapted on board.

Chafe protection is available in three materials: polyester sleeve for standard dock and pontoon applications, Dyneema® sleeve for high-abrasion contact points such as bow rollers and steel fairleads, and leather for traditional superyacht presentation at exposed chafe points on deck. Combinations can be specified for a single line — leather at the eye, Dyneema® sleeve through the fairlead, polyester at the midline.
