Steelsafe

Steelsafe is a 12-strand Dyneema® rope with a specialist protective coating, produced without an outer cover for direct wire rope replacement in commercial marine, offshore, subsea, industrial and heavy lifting applications. Available in SK75, SK78, SK99 and DM20 Dyneema® fibre grades from 9mm diameter. The standard datasheet runs to 96mm — larger diameters up to 120mm are available on enquiry through our Special Works department.

The coating reduces dirt ingress and extends service life in harsh environments where uncoated bare braid would be exposed to abrasive contamination. Steelsafe has low energy storage under load across all grades, reducing snap-back risk versus steel wire in the event of failure. SK78 is the standard commercial specification and is MEG4 compliant at fibre level. All sizes are made to order. Custom works and assemblies available on request.

Typical Applications
  • Offshore lifting and mooring
  • Subsea tethers and deployment lines
  • Industrial winching and wire replacement
  • Commercial marine running lines
  • Heavy lifting and crane slings
  • Renewable energy and utilities
  • Defence
  • Winching & vehicle recovery

12-Strand Dyneema® Wire Replacement: Four Grade Options

Steelsafe is a torsionally stable 12-strand construction with a specialist protective coating applied directly to the braid, designed for use without an outer cover in applications where steel wire rope is currently the specification. At equivalent breaking load to steel wire, Steelsafe operates at approximately 15% of the mass, directly reducing crane payload penalties, manual handling requirements and snap-back energy in the event of failure. The coating resists dirt ingress and abrasive wear in subsea, industrial and offshore environments where uncoated bare braid would have reduced service life. SK78 is the standard commercial specification, MEG4 compliant at fibre level and accredited by DNV GL, Bureau Veritas and ClassNK. SK99 delivers approximately 20% higher breaking load at equivalent diameter for diameter-critical applications. DM20 provides virtually zero permanent creep for permanent static installations where dimensional stability over decades is the primary requirement.

Offshore, Subsea and Industrial Wire Rope Replacement

Steelsafe is supplied on reel or as custom-finished assemblies with splice terminations. Colour coding is available on request for identification in multi-line deployments. All sizes are made to order with no standard stock held — lead time should be confirmed at enquiry stage. For permanent mooring and static tether applications requiring the full DM20 zero-creep specification, see our Dynastay range. For industrial and vehicle recovery winch line applications in smaller diameters, see Steelsafe Ultra. For full technical data on each Dyneema® grade including creep rates, certification and fibre specification, see our Dyneema® technical guide.
