Foundation and Early Years
English Braids Ltd was established in 1968 with a mission to supply rope and cord to the industrial marketplace. Originally founded in Malvern, Worcestershire, we moved to our purpose-built site in 1979, where we have since prioritized sales and exceptional customer service.
From the outset, we have focused on a B2B environment, seeking partnerships with manufacturers to deliver quality products to end consumers.
Diversification into Marine
In 1980, we diversified into the marine sector, establishing a robust network of partners throughout the UK and expanding our distribution channels across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Our commitment to providing high-quality products has been unwavering, catering to various applications from dinghies to large yachts. Through this diversification, we embraced further innovation, advancing our manufacturing techniques to enhance product performance.
Our partnerships with leading technological brands, such as Dyneema, have allowed us to incorporate state-of-the-art materials into our ropes. We believe that customers do not simply buy based on price but seek true value for money, a principle that has been key to our success.
Growth and Expansion
In 2005, we enhanced our market position by acquiring Marlow Ropes, which was the largest competitor in the market at that time. This strategic move allowed us to further solidify our commitment to quality British manufacturing. Our growth has been both organic and through strategic acquisitions, enabling us to increase our market presence and production capacity. We take pride in our British manufacturing heritage, consistently rejecting moves to relocate production to other areas. Our focus on quality, combined with a dedication to innovation, has positioned English Braids as a trusted name in the UK marine, industrial markets and beyond.
As the English Braids Group grew, we welcomed two other leading English brands: Ibex Marina and Ace Supplies. This expansion reflects our belief in providing reliable solutions and products tailored to the multiple industries we serve and distribute to over 200 countries worldwide.
