Maintenance Manager

Reporting into the Production Manager, we are seeking a proactive Maintenance Manager to join a niche industry, to lead, manage, and develop the in-house engineering team including task allocation, training, and performance oversight.

The role will very much be part of the engine room. Due to the fast pace of the business, you will be required to work well under pressure, be robust in character, pragmatic, with pace and patience, and have a positive solutions-based approach. 

Responsibilities of a Maintenance Manager

Main

  • Technical leadership and management of 3 to 4 people in the maintenance team.
  • Organise and coordinate external contractors for specialist work, ensuring compliance with site safety procedures.
  • Engage with equipment OEMs for technical support, repairs, optimisation of machine utilisation, installation of new equipment, and safe disposal of obsolete machinery.
  • Plan and implement Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Oversee the diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electrical breakdowns on production machinery.
  • Oversee machine overhauls, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Operate machine tools (lathe and milling machines) for part fabrication and repairs.
  • Carry out/oversee welding and fabrication tasks as required.
  • Ensure electrical safety compliance.
  • Oversee and ensure the maintenance and calibration of machinery to ensure consistent performance and product quality.
  • Co-ordinate building/infrastructure maintenance including lighting, heating, and general repairs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Liaise with production to minimise downtime and support continuous improvement.

Additional

  • Oversee site inductions for contractors and vendors and authorize hotworks where required.
    Apprenticeship coordinator for maintenance apprentice(s).
  • Responsible for testing and service/repair co-ordination of fire and burglar alarm systems.
  • Oversee database of approved suppliers and vendors for parts and services.
  • Oversee stock levels of commonly used parts and consumables to ensure rapid turnaround of repairs and maintenance.
  • Implementation of cost savings and efficiency improvements across the maintenance department.

Requirements to be successful as a Maintenance Manager

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
  • Health & Safety training (e.g., IOSH or willingness to obtain).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in maintenance or engineering.
  • Proven experience in a hands-on role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing mechanical systems (e.g. Motors, gearboxes, drivetrains).
  • Familiarity with electrical fault-finding and basic PLC diagnostics.
  • Experience of working independently and managing own workload.
  • Experience of implementing preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Experience of factory operations within an ISO9001-certified organisation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of intermediate/advanced fault investigation techniques.
  • Fluent in the English language with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Microsoft Office / Excel / Databases and spreadsheets (basic).
  • Strong numerical and analytical mindset.
  • Driving licence, there may be a requirement to travel to other sites in UK and suppliers in UK/Europe.
  • Able to do occasional overtime when required.

Hours

Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week.

Commutable from Bromyard, Droitwich Spa, Evesham, Hereford, Ledbury, Malvern, Pershore, Tewkesbury, Worcester.
