Rope Care

Caring for your rope not only prolongs its life but also helps prevent the fibres breaking down and unexpected parting. English Braids ropes are designed and manufactured to extremely high standards and following the steps below will help you to maintain your ropes durability and performance and will maximize its life.

Here are a few tips on caring for your cordage:

  1. Keep ropes out of direct sunlight when not in use - UV light, can in some cases degrade the fibers. Nylon is particularly susceptible to this.
  2. Wash ropes with warm water to rid of salt and dirt deposits. Do not use chemicals as this may affect the lubricant that is used on the base yarn.
  3. Whip, Splice or Heat Shrink the ends to prevent fraying.
  4. Correctly coil rope when not in use to prevent Kinks from forming.
  5. Always check rope for wear and tear, alter the contact points regularly to prevent chafing at one point and replace as necessary
  6. Avoid contact with chemicals.
  7. Use the right rope for the job. English Braids and our specialist distributors will be happy to advise on suitability.
  8. Splicing ropes correctly retains 90-95% of the unspliced rope strength, it is important however to regularly inspect splices.
